My Recurring Dream

2014-05-24 20.02.00

I have a recurring waking dream and it seems to be building in scope.

I see myself walking on movie set of what appears to be the Hollywood blockbuster, The Matrix, but it’s not.

I see myself from above climbing multiple levels of black and white check marked staircase.

At the top of the stairs, I pause and then enter the ornate door into the room.

Morpheus stands in the corner; black leather trenchcoat, boots. He turns, facing me, close cropped hair, aviator glasses.

“Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know you can’t explain. But you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life. That there’s something wrong with the world. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. Do you know what I’m talking about?”

Unaided by thought, I see the words spill out of my mouth “The Market?” Morpheus smiles.

“Do you know what IT is? The Market is everywhere. It is all around us, even now in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you drive to work, when you talk on your iPhone, when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.”

Again, slipping out of my mouth, “what truth?” Morpheus continues.

“That you are a slave, Dave-o. Like everyone else you were born into bondage, born into a prison that you cannot smell or taste or touch. A prison for your mind…. This is your last chance. After this there is no turning back. You take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes…”

Confirmation
I get confirmation as I tell this story during my 2009 Green Festival workshop. I give the audience the choice, and out of the blue, my then six year daughter Melia yells out “The Green Pill”. Laughter ensures. I did not prompt her.

Five years later I find myself recalling my first Green Pill experience.
